4 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Style Going Into Spring

Spring is just around the corner and it’s time for a style refresh! If you’re currently in a bit of a style rut, don’t worry – getting out of it is easier than you might think. Even if you aren’t ready to buy new clothes and still want a refresh, you can update your closet or make a change elsewhere to get you closer to the new style you want to have.

When you get tired of the outfits you used to love or struggle to find pieces you like, it just takes a bit of creativity and a little bit of knowing your own taste. To help out with that, here are 4 tips to help you quickly refresh your style!

Brighten Your Makeup

If you’re someone who loves to wear understated shades of lipstick and eyeshadow (like me), or you love darker tones like purples and reds, it might be a good time to switch out these tones for something brighter and lighter. Pinks, blues, yellows, greens, oranges, and even shades of red or purple can all be worn brighter, and often enough that’s all you need to give you the refresh you’re looking for.

After all, makeup isn’t permanent. It changes from day to day and if you want to look different, that’s what it’s for! While you may have your ‘look’ down to 10 minutes each morning, you can always come back to it when you want something comfortable and familiar.

Wear Some New Jewelry

Jewelry is the main accessory you can add to any outfit, and as such, should be one of the first things you consider when it comes to refreshing your current style. You’ve already got a jewelry box filled with silver and gold goodies, but it’s time to wear them a lot more often or in different pairings. And hey, it’s always nice to have an excuse to go jewelry shopping!

Try out some stack rings or some loose bracelets that run up and down your arms. Get a drop necklace and combine it with a choker when you’re going for a night-out look, and get a couple of anklets for sunny days when you can slip the sandals on. You could even walk on the edgier side and try out a curved barbell; body jewelry adds a lot of dimension to even the simplest crop top and pair of jeans!

When shopping for new adornments, consider some black owned or women owned brands in your search as well! There are so many really cute options like Khiry, Kendall Miles, and more.

Get a New ‘Do

How do you currently do your hair? Maybe you’ve got a set style? It’s great when you’ve found a style that suits you, but sometimes switching it up can be the change you need and make you feel like a new person! Going into a new season is always a good time to switch up your hairdo.

Your hair is the easiest thing to play with and any change will make a big impact. For example, feel free to experiment with your parting and/or hairline. Give yourself bangs, a curtain or shaved look, and just have some fun with it. You could even chop it all off if you wanted because it’ll grow back and look just as good. So why not head to the salon and break out some shears or a new color and change things up!

Mix Your Patterns

Patterns often work well together, even when you think they might clash. A previous blog post of mine, How to Style the Polka Dot Trend, gives some good tips on how to mix and match patterns. For example, you can style polka dots by pairing them with other patterns (like stripes, florals, or plaid – don’t be afraid to step out of the box!). This ‘clash’ is a good way to add a bit more style and spice to your outfit, and it’ll draw the eye in a very good way.

Aside from that, the more patterns you have in your wardrobe, the less ‘boring’ your clothes will feel. A t-shirt with embroidery or a motif is always going to be more interesting than a plain tee, and they show off a bit more personality as well.

These tips will not only help you gain confidence in creating refreshed, stylish looks, but it will also help you stay stylish for years to come.
