Happy new year everyone! As we step into 2022, I always like to start my year off with a purge of anything that I feel no longer fits into my vision for the new year. This January, I’m starting with my closet! I’m cleaning out any old clothes that I no longer wear or that no longer fit, and making space for all the updates that will inevitably come throughout this year.
Since I’ll be cleaning out and re-organizing my wardrobe, I want to focus on updating my actual closet space as well. An organized closet makes it easier to put your outfits together and helps you keep your wardrobe up-to-date. A carefully curated, organized closet is the perfect way to give your wardrobe the love it deserves.
Want to make your closet worthy of your wardrobe? Take a look at the following ideas.
Make sure your closet is functional
For your closet to be worthy of your wardrobe, it has to actually be functional! Our closets can really take a beating, especially if you’re always on the go. Broken or loose rails, a damaged shelf – it can sometimes feel like your closet is falling apart. Making repairs is a good place to start if your closet needs it.
For example, you might need a drywall repair specialist or a carpenter who can fix your closet interior. You can even head to your local stores like Target, Home Goods, World Market, and The Container Store to help with any updates. Or, get online on Amazon or other online stores to purchase some new rails or other finishings your space might need. Even a local thrift store is likely to have some really cool, vintage items that could help you spruce it up some more!
Get rid of all the closet clutter
It’s hard to find anything in your closet if it’s bursting at the seams with clothes all over the floor or things out of place. Taking steps to declutter your closet will help you streamline what you own so that you can always find what you’re looking for. The less you have, the easier it will be to keep it neat. And let’s be real, who wants to spend time straightening out their closet over and over again? Not me!
Sometimes just adding new or different storage solutions makes it look like you got a whole new closet. Adding bins and baskets or a new dresser can help you keep your clothes and accessories organized, making it much easier to find what you need. Simple fixes like this could help give your closet a whole new lease on life!
Create a capsule wardrobe
If you want to dress well every day, creating a modern capsule wardrobe is a great way to do it. A capsule wardrobe focuses on high-quality, timeless items to help you adopt your own personal style. It also makes it much easier on you to pick out outfits every day and to think more sustainably about your wardrobe. With a smaller wardrobe, you’ll be able to mix and match your items to create looks you know that flatter and fit you, making it much easier to dress with style and confidence.
Make your wardrobe seasonal
An effective way of keeping your closet organized is to make it seasonal. Putting items you don’t need into storage (I keep mine in bins under my bed for example) means the clothes you see in front of you are the ones you want to wear. A seasonal switchover keeps your closet relevant, helping you look your best.
There’s nothing more satisfying than an attractive, well-organized closet. There’s no reason why your own closet can’t look picture-perfect too! Is it time your closet had a makeover? Use these tips to give your wardrobe the home it deserves. Now your closet will be worthy of your fresh, up-to-date wardrobe. Happy updating!
xoxo, Arielle
