The Hamptons are the most iconic getaway for busy, affluent New Yorkers. Once you visit here, you immediately know why.
On Eastern Long Island’s South Fork, the Hamptons are a string of seaside communities marked by long stretches of beach and interior farmland, where daytimes spent outdoors sunbathing and people watching slip seamlessly into the peaceful nighttime whispers of crickets and moonlight. Summers spent here are nothing short of spectacular: relaxation and outdoor family fun are the norm.
If you’re planning a trip out to Bridgehampton in particular, you’ve got a lot to look forward to. According to Trip Advisor (the world’s largest travel site; if you haven’t heard of it where have you been hiding?!), one of the top places you must visit is the Wölffer Estate Vineyard. The 55-acre American winery was founded in 1988 and gives visitors an “I just escaped to Europe for the day” feel. The Wolffer Estate would be a great addition to your itinerary for a wine tour and a gorgeous sunset dinner.
Other great places to visit if you like nature are the South Fork Natural History Museum and the Madoo Conservancy. The Natural History Museum is a family friendly museum with outstanding nature exhibits that strives to raise environmental awareness and stewardship. Madoo is a consistently evolving, horticulturally diverse public garden established in 1967 as a unique tribute to its founder, artist Robert Dash.
Lastly, if you want to plan a trip to Bridgehampton during peak season, you must attend the Hampton Classic. It is a Grand Prix event and one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the US. Held over Labor Day, anyone who’s anyone is in attendance.
The last time I visited The Hamptons was during Labor Day weekend and I had a blast! On our last night of the trip my family went to a family friend’s end-of-summer party and had the best time seeing old friends, making new ones, and dancing the night away.
In a place like the Hamptons, I like to dress more dressy casual. You never know who you will run into! At a party like this one to celebrate the end of summer, I decided to wear a beautifully bright yellow beaded dress and decorative pink heels, both from Topshop (one of my all time favorite stores!). It ended up being the perfect outfit for the occasion. I received so many compliments!
I always enjoy visiting the Hamptons and if done right, I know you will too! Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever visited before and what some of your favorite places were! If you haven’t, use this guide to help you plan your trip next summer!
