Review: Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Skincare Line

I received the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate trio for free in a “VoxBox” I won from being a member of the awesome Influenster community. Influenster is an influencer community that allows you to receive free products to test and review. This box was in partnership with Kate Somerville and their ExfoliKate skincare line.

The products that came in the box were the ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer, the ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment, and the ExfoliKate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash, all in full sized amounts! How exciting is THAT!exfolikate

I decided to test these products by doing a week-long trial. I almost exclusively used these three Kate Somerville products in order to truly see how well they worked. I originally wanted to only use these products for the week, but my skin said “hold on now, give me benzoyl peroxide or else” (Check out my post on my skin care routine for the products and routine I follow on a regular basis).

The Week-Long Test

I began this test run last Monday and ended it yesterday for a total of an 8 day trial.

I used the ExfoliKate daily foaming cleanser once a day at night (I don’t wash my face in the mornings with any cleansers. I just rinse with cool water). The ExfoliKate glow moisturizer I used twice a day – once in the morning after rinsing my face, and once at night before going to sleep. The ExfoliKate treatment mask I used twice in total.

After cleansing I used my normal witch hazel as a toner and every other day I would use tea tree oil as well. Then, I would use the moisturizer. In the mornings after rinsing my face and using the ExfoliKate moisturizer I would use my Cetaphil moisturizer with SPF 15. (sunscreen is important for daily use, even if you work inside all day!)

This is what my skin looked like before the trial with no makeup or products on.

My Review

The Cleanser: This cleanser is lightweight and foams easily. It smells great and my skin definitely feels clean after using it. It doesn’t strip my skin and all makeup, dirt, etc. is gone. Although it’s a small sized bottle, I still have over half left in it (which surprised me because I can be very heavy handed with how much product I use)!

The Moisturizer: This moisturizer is very light and has a silky feel. A little definitely goes a long way, so this full sized jar will last me a long time! Its moisturizing properties are excellent – my skin maintains its moisture all day long. I naturally have oily skin, so I typically don’t get dry anyways, but sometimes certain products (especially if they have chemically exfoliating properties) will mess up my skin’s balance.

The Treatment Mask: This mask smells SO GOOD. It’s like having an aromatherapy session while you’re getting a professional facial at a spa. You feel it working as soon as you put it on.

I typically leave masks on for about 20-30 minutes so that I feel like I get its full benefits. This one says that it works in 2 minutes, but honestly I feel like that would just be a waste of product if I only had it on for that long. This bottle is also only 2 fl. oz. so there’s not much product in it. I want to make sure I get all of its benefits since I’ll only get maybe 3 uses out of it anyways.

When the mask dries, little white flecks appear. I don’t quite know what that is, but I just assume it’s because of the chemical properties of the mask.

After I wash it off, my skin is ridiculously soft. This mask really works. I was surprised by how well it worked to be honest. I never have high hopes for new products I try because so many of them are bogus, but this one definitely is NOT that. It genuinely resurfaced my skin, shrunk the appearance of my pores (which is a HUGE deal for me because my pores are on another level all the time), and made my skin visibly brighter.

Overall Results

Overall, these products truly work. If you’re looking for a great at-home exfoliation experience, these products are for you.

I don’t know if it was because I used them in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide, but it did make my skin peel on my nose for about a day or two and then revealed fresh skin underneath. My chin has peeled for the last two days as well.

This is what my skin looked like after the trial with no makeup (only a tiny bit of mascara) or products on.

Physically, you may not notice a huge difference, but my pores have definitely gotten smaller (especially around my nose!), my skin is exponentially softer, and my texture has improved. The fact that this happened all in one week is a great result to me!

This is definitely a product I will continue to use (especially the ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment which was my favorite! I love face masks!) and I am looking forward to trying other Kate Somerville product lines as well.

I hope you all enjoyed this review and thank you for reading! Leave a comment if you thought this review was helpful or if you have tried this ExfoliKate line before!

xoxo, Arielle
